About Johnny Oliver
Johnny Oliver Singer / Songwriter from Summerside Prince Edward Island, has been performing his original songs for over 20 years. After building up a life time of original music, Johnny decided to take his talents to the studio. His long overdue first album came out in May 2008. The name of his debut album was ‘The Reason’ was inspired by a true story about the beginning of the now famous Christmas Daddies Telethon and how it began.
The album ‘The Reason’ shows the versatility by which Johnny writes, one can clearly see in his writing from where some of his influences come. He has a very strong country background, with a little bit of blues, folk, rock and even some bluegrass mixed in. Growing up, Johnny listened to the likes of Merle Haggard, Travis Tritt, George Thorogood, Bob Segar along with numerous others.
In the summer of 2008 Zuno Films Inc, a company based out of Montréal, Québec produced a film on the Island called, ‘Looking for Anne’. Three songs, Still In Love With You, Free To Be Alone and Take Me As I Am, are featured from Johnny’s first album, ‘The Reason’.
After receiving two nominations, at the 2009 P.E.I. Music Awards, Male Vocalist and Country Recording of the Year, Johnny felt like he was on the right path, staying true to his belief that he and his music had a place in the music industry. This also supported his desire to continue to produce his original material.
Feeling very satisfied with his debut album, Johnny went back into the Studio to produce his second album ‘I’m Not Up For Sale’ at Guernsey Cove Parlour Productions with Gordon Belsher. However he wanted to step it up a notch by showing a greater diversity with his choice of songs, while still staying true to his country roots.
In the lead track, ‘Hardcore Angel’, Johnny takes this driving country tune to a new level with a powerful vocal performance. In ‘I’m Not Up For Sale’ Johnny sings a heartfelt ballad about on how far a man can fall and still stand tall and hold onto his pride.
