About Khalil
Khalil Coerleone was born in the mean streets of Bridgeport CT. At the tender age of ten years old, he wrote his first ryhme. He began to battle neighborhood emcees on street corners and in school hallways. After winning back to back talent shows, Khalil developed a passion to create his own music. Influenced by artists such as EPMD, A Tribe Called Quest, D-Nice(south bronx) and Nas, Khalil started to make his own beats. He sold beats to classmates and underground recording artist for $200 a track. He then produced and recorded a twelve song demo which caught the attention of Harlem's Lawrence Mack. Lawrence became Khalil's manager and introduced him to professional recording studios. In 1998 Khalil signed his first recording contract with Dawg-Team Records, Kansas City, MO. He recorded a full length album with the label but due to contract violations, the album was never released. In the summer of 2001, Khalil strayed away from the music scene and joined the armed forces at the age of twenty-two. He served our country in combat zones such as Kosovo and Bagdad Iraq. While serving time in the military, he kept working on his music by recording mixtape material on his personal laptop. In 2005 he was released and back on the grind. Residing in the Bedstuy section of Brooklyn,NY , he and associates started their own indie record label.(Millitant Records). The label's first release was the debut single from Khalil Coerleone. The maxi features three cuts but are all different genures of hip hop. Tear The Roof Off is a hostile club banger with hardcore verses and a catchy rap hook. Track two, which is In The Struggle Ta Make, is more street rap where Khalil takes us through everyday trials and tribulations. Quote: But in the struggle to make ends/ I still drop a five page letter to my cous in the state pen. The third song is We Can Dance. A fast tempo cut that sounds like it was strictly made for Miami, Florida. It contains Twister like verses with a pop/r&b hook. Khalil Coerleone will drop his debut album (Built From The Ground Up) in the fall of 2009
