About Lawrence Cresswell

Lawrence Cresswell, who hails from Kitchener-Cambridge, Ontario, has played acoustic and classical guitar for over 30 years. He considers himself basically self-taught, despite formal training in theory and performance with the Royal Conservatory of Music and with several private tutors. His personal style of guitar playing draws upon various performance techniques such as rhythm methods and accompaniment styles, although he has come to favour finger-style and methods common to early music.

It is from both the acoustic and classical guitar that Lawrence obtains sincere satisfaction, for he feels they allow him to more fully explore the expressive potential of the instruments, both as a performer and as a composer. While the majority of his own compositions have been written for solo guitar, he has developed arrangements for guitar and flute, violins, cellos, and various sizes of vocal ensembles and choirs.
