About Mario Torres
I was born and raised in the great state of Texas which is home to great music such as rock, blues, jazz, country, folk, and Tejano. Texas was the perfect catalyst for my becoming a music aficionado and professional musician. I started my music sojourn in school and church choir and eventually moved on to oboe in school orchestra band. I picked up the guitar after my family moved to Navasota the official Blues Capital of Texas. I got my hands on a 57 Les Paul and at the age of 16 "cut my teeth" with various Texas cover bands Hidden Image, Albatross, and Shagnasty to name a few. Hidden Image was voted the best band in Texas by The Texas World Speedway, Albatross if only in namesake was featured on MTV Basement Tapes, and Shagnasty opened for various national music acts including Asleep At The Wheel. While visiting Austin I gave Texas guitar legend Eric Johnson a guitar lesson in the fine art of tapped harmonics, ala Eddie Van Halen. I also met guitar legend Grady Martin in Austin at an audition for a music project Willie Nelson was financing. In case you don't know, Grady Martin is credited with the first recorded fuzz guitar in the history of music. I gave my life to Jesus in the mid 90's and began working in various ministries in the church including music ministry. I have had the privilege of working with contemporary Christian music artists Phillips Craig and Dean, Mikaila, and Messanic music artist Ted Pearce. I have also worked with gospel music legend Dorothy Norwood and Cynthia Green of The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. In addition I have worked with several Christian ministries in the Dallas area including Steve Solomon's River walk Fellowship, Rohn Bailey, Power and Authority Tabernacle Mass Choir, Christ Temple Choir of whom radio personality Frank Reed once said was "the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir of Dallas", The Met praise and worship team, Global Glory, Tom Dooley The Journey, 91.7 Power FM, DayStar Christian television, and Behind The Wire prison ministry. I recorded my first CD Human Sacrifice with Big Methuselah in 2000. btw, Andy Timmons is the other guitarist featured on Human Sacrifice. Big Methuselah was one of the top 20 Unsigned Artist who Rock acccording to the legendary Christian rock magazine 7 balls. 7 balls top 20 alumni also included platinum music artists Mercy Me and Pillar. I recorded my 2nd CD inneractive with worship leader extraordinaire Rohn Bailey in 2002. In 2003 I decided it was time for a vacation and left music ministry. In 2005 I started playing music again and began experimenting with ambient, electronica, and Latin music and recorded my first instrumental solo CD titled Sojourn. I have continued working in the electronica and Latin music idiom releasing subsequent instrumental CDs over the years. My first vocal recording was in 2010 in the blues classic titled "Mean Woman Blues." I am working on a new CD for 2011 which will include tradional blues and Tejano styled blues/country/rock music. Should be fun! Thanks for visiting, and God bless.
