About Peter Wass
I began performing and playing back in 1977 and have appeared at many top class venues throughout Sydney, Newcastle, NSW country and aboard P&O Fairstar. I have enjoyed success with top bands ‘Turning Point’ and ‘The Singles’, supporting big acts such as Cold Chisel, Mondo Rock and Ol'55 back in the early 80’s. In 1988, I formed the popular Sydney duos ‘Dexter’s Heroes’ and ‘2xStatic’, while in 1993 I fronted and toured with the well-known ‘ZZ Show’ ZZ Top concept band.
Since the late 80’s, I have been extensively working the live pub and club scene with various acts and musicians, performing lively renditions of popular music interwoven with my original songs. Also during the eighties and nineties, I collaborated, worked and recorded with original bands in Sydney and Newcastle.
I began songwriting and recording demos of my original songs in 1986, with the view of obtaining a publishing contract. This was also my first year with the Australasian Performing Rights Association and I have since composed over 45 songs as well as numerous film score compositions and theme music. In 1993, I commenced professional songwriting studies to refine my skills through Creative Options School of Songwriting. Since joining APRA, I have also attended many songwriting conferences and workshops.
My music can best be described as commercial pop and rock, deviating on occasion into other genres and slowly evolving into more melodic ballads and ambient instrumentals. 1990 was the year my first debut CD album 'Music To Make Love By' was produced. The release of my 2nd self produced CD, 'On Some Other Day’ came in December 1999 and includes 15 of my best tracks. The song ‘Born Loser’ won the ‘Best Original Song’ category at the 1997 Sydney Video and Film Awards in the acclaimed film ‘Born Loser’. Currently completing writing and production of my third album.
What the present and future holds is to perform with my band and promote my original music through songwriter showcase events.
