About Rome Woods

Music has been a part of my life from a very early age, growing up listening to artists such as Michael Jackson and Phil Collins. However, it wasn't until the age of 9 that I really began to discover my musical abilities, when my uncle taught me some basic guitar chords. This soon developed into a passion, and my dad being the pastor of the local church opened the door for me to express myself publically. At the age of 14, I began developing my voice, inspired by two artists in particular: BeBe Winans from my dads gospel collection and Craig David, the up-and-coming urban act at the time! I'd never really sung much before that, apart from really quietly under my breath during church! Having found this new skill, I also discovered a computer program called "Hip-Hop EJay" (which you can use to create songs but dragging and dropping pre-played samples into a grid), and this marked the beginning of my life as a producer. I began putting down my own lyrics and making up melodies with my guitar, and my urge to develop all my newly found skills took me to Farnborough 6th Form College after my GCSEs where I enrolled on a Music Technology course.

Shortly after, I teamed up with three other students with like musical interests and formed a four part vocal group by the name of "4Real", inspired mainly by the likes of Boyz II Men, NSync and Damage. Music in my life exploded at this point as I was involved in pretty much every musical extra-curricular activity going, from chamber choir to pop choir, and of course the band. I also seemed to have an aptitude for the technological side of music and began using the college studios and my own home set-up to produce tracks for the band. Unfortunately, the band split and everyone went their separate ways, but they're all still my boys today!

Now based in Bristol, I am more passionate than ever about my music, which I feel comes across in all my songs. I've been working hard over the last few years to mature myself as a person, singer and producer/songwriter, and know that it hasn't been in vain. Armed with new ideas, a unique sound as well as meaningful (and personal) lyrics, I feel that I definitely have something fresh to offer the UK music scene.
