About Womba Luwaya
Womba Luwaya is an influential Soul-Folk Singer. Womba has described her music as “Heartfelt and Soulful”. Her musical influences include Adele, Amy Winehouse, Beyonce, R Kelly, Destiny’s Child, Nina Simone, Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman and various Christian music.
Born in the spring of 1987, Womba started singing at the young age of seven at various school concerts and the church. Her first public singing performance was at a school concert where she sang ‘Freedom’ by The Judds. She has been self taught on guitar and continued performing at local gigs in London and Leicestershire. In her earlier music career days she collaborated with school friends on songs such as ‘Owe it all to You’ and ‘Standing in the Rain’.
Womba decided to go solo after moving to London and attending the Major Music artist development programme. In 2009 she wrote the song ‘What you lying for’ with producer Laurence Hobbs – many of her songs are being played on online radio stations such as Deuce Radio Show and Off the Chart Radio.
