Biography

For Trinidadian born Samuel Dyer, being born into a musical family, has nurtured his aspirations of being a successful Gospel recording artist and songwriter. Born into a Christian home, Samuel’s gift was recognized at the early age, singing at the age of 5 with his brother Eustace, (then known as the “Dyer Brothers”). Performing at schools and church concerts, he was later influenced by a secondary school teacher to enter talent competitions. At thirteen he won his first talent competition, though he never favored them. But it was that through this competition he received a scholarship in music, majoring in the piano. In 1995, his exposure to live performing grew, as he traveled various Caribbean islands as part of ‘The Dyer Brothers’. The group filled the guest artist spot at the Antigua Talented Teen Competition, performing before an audience of approximately eight thousand. Broadcasted over local television and radio, the duo won rave reviews amongst locals and extended media coverage. This show stopping performance was followed-up by additional concerts in Montserrat. Later in his teens there was a tremendous shift in Samuel’s life when he fell away from the Christian faith he grew up in. Even though he attended church, his heart was not there. At this time he joined a local R&B group comprising of his former schoolmates.

After three years of singing in nightclubs and parties, Samuel decided to leave the group and go solo as a performer. He soon caught the attention of Jamm Records P.R.O. Avery Seaton who introduced him to Producer Keith Israel, who immediately took interest and signed him to Jamm Records (now Vision of God Records). For three years, Samuel had worked developing his vocal and songwriting skills, in an attempt to get a record deal with a major label. His music had been influenced by the likes of Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Patti La belle, Lionel Richie, Elton John & Whitney Houston. After this three year period Samuel experienced pivotal changes in his personal life which resulted in his decline in doing secular music.

Christian Influences and Debut Album.

Some time after he returned to the Christian faith and became committed toward Christian service. It is through his service that he eventually stopped doing secular music and returned to his gospel roots. Through this challenging stand, his current management accommodated him in his change of music and life he soon began working on his first Gospel album under the same label. After more than two years of trials, toil and turnarounds, the 17-track album which he co-produced was finally released in 2004 entitled ‘Spirit Arise’. His final release with V.O.G. Records was a Christmas album called ‘Joy: Samuel Dyer and Friends’.

International Tours

Through the success of the album, Samuel grew to be a well-respected music minister within the local Gospel music circuit. He has traveled extensively the Caribbean and The United States of America to places such as Nashville, New York, North Carolina, Washington, and Atlanta to name a few. He has been and favored to share the stage with Caribbean and International Gospel artistes such as Papa San, Carlene Davis, Joseph Niles, Sherwin Gardner, Nicole Ballosingh, Byron Cage, Shirley Caesar, Deitrick & Damita Haddon, Cece Winans, Yolanda Adams, Dwayne Woods, J Moses, Tye Tribbett, and Mary Mary among others. In spite of the many trying times he has faced in light of his success, Samuel has found his strength and inspiration form the Bible and his faith in Jesus Christ.

Gospel Music Accomplishments

As an invited guest of the prestigious Gospel Stellar Awards, he had the opportunity to personally meet and share with some of the big names in Gospel such as Donnie Mclurkin, Mary Mary, Fred Hammond, Israel Houghton, and Jonathan Butler. Currently Samuel is working on his third album call “The Son”. He is also actively involved in local music ministry and sharing his faith, partnering with charity efforts. Samuel continues as a music producer, composer, songwriter, and vocal trainer, dedicating his life to walking in his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
